Meeting up
All the information you need to join a walk is provided in the walk calendar. Aim to get there about 15 minutes before the walk is due to start.
You are free to just turn up, or you can contact the walk leader ahead of the walk if you have any questions.
If its your first walk, do introduce yourself to the walk leader, either beforehand or on the day, so that they can make sure you are looked after and can introduce you.
What to wear
You don't need special walking gear, although many people choose lightweight trousers and tops because they are comfortable and windproof.
You do need to wear appropriate footwear. Bear in mind that the path my be muddy. Trainers or boots are fine. Crocs, flips flops, sandals and normal day shoes are not. Wellingtons may not be suitable for a more than a few miles unless they are proper "walking ones",
We advise against wearing jeans, as they become heavy if they get wet, and in cold weather you could be at risk of hypothermia.
What to bring
Bring a waterproof jacket, even if rain is not forecast, as they provide an extra layer and are windproof if needed.
Always bring plenty of water, and usually a packed lunch. We may want to bring a hot drink in a flask.
In hot weather, you should wear high-SPF sunblock and a hat, and bring extra water.
YOU may want to bring something so sit on - a sit mat or a plastic bag.
