weekends away

Always prove popular with opportunity to walk and have fun in other parts of the country and also abroad. They can be organised by anyone in the group so if you've an idea for one and want to publicise it, let us know and it will be listed here and a forum set up on the message board for it.

Usually there will be a "waitlist" operating for a weekend away once its fully booked so you may still be able to go on a trip if someone has to drop out, contact the trip organiser to ask to go on the waitlist.

As places are always limited, and typically oversubscribed, these events are, usually, only open to group members.

Lundy Island
Date 16th to 19th April 2011
Where Millcombe House and Castle Keep South

Description

Lundy Island may seem like a small space for a 'walking' holiday but don't be deceived - this is a unique habitat (the island is a SSI and the only Marine Nature Reserve in England) - so lots to look at lots of other things to do - including diving, climbing, painting, birdwatching etc. (Judith has already volunteered to lead a bird walk). Or just pottering and watching the sea.

We've had to book this early to get any chance of getting accommodation but in any case this will be a very good time to be there with lots of wildlife activity, new lambs and spring 'sunshine'. The accommodation cost is based on 14 people across the two properties booked so far. If any couples (who think they will still be happy to share a double bed in April 2011) are included in the party we could take the number of the group up to 16 - which would cut costs slightly.

In addition to the accommodation cost there is £56 return for the crossing to Lundy on the MS Oldenburg from Ilfracombe/ Bideford, plus food/ transport to Devon (car sharing ideally) - but that will all be arranged and paid for nearer the time. There is a pub on the island (well of course there is as otherwise we wouldn't be going) and we will be able to arrange to eat there on at least some evenings.

Places 14 to 16
Costs For accommodation £80 - payable now (we have paid in full to secure 2010 price)
